What do we mean at belleEtik by Ethical Fashion
One of the aims of belleEtik is to spread the benefits along the supply chain to growers, & processors, and workers involved in the process. Clothing is an exceptionally complicated area and we categorise our clothing as follows:1. Fairtrade Labelled
FLO - where clothing is made of Fairtrade labelled cotton. FLO certifies producers of commodities including cotton, tea, coffee, bananas, cocoa, sugar, honey.
IFAT - if clothing has been made by organisations registered with the International Fairtrade Association) IFAT works with producer organisations, who make clothing and crafts.
2. Fairly Traded
Items which are not labelled Fairtrade but where suppliers are working with small factories, cooperatives and producers groups under fair trade conditions - including good pay; long term relationships. Our suppliers in this category exhibit at the Ethical Fashion Show and have signed up to a charter of good conduct in sourcing and supplying.
3. Environmentally Friendly Materials
This includes the use of organic cotton; or crops such as hemp and bamboo, which do not require pesticides; the use of natural dyes where possible and the use of recycled materials. In fact all our designers currently fit this category
At belleEtik we will also visit suppliers and producers within 12-18 months of trading. We want to continue to educate ourselves in labour issues; ethical labelling initiatives and join the debate and make some noise to campaign for better labour and environmental standards in the fashion industry.
Giving Something Back Although at the very early stages we are committing to invest at least 20% of our profits in social projects. As we move closer to being able to realise this dream, we will link with producer & community groups & NGOs to contribute to projects fostering sustainable development. Please watch this space.
