The Recession Wardrobe

Don't let recession cramp your style I learned this term from Davie Phillips in Cultivate 2 years ago.
Having decided to convert my wardrobe 2 years ago so I knew exactly what I was wearing & also starting a business to sell "ethical fashion", both in terms of lifestyle choice & cashflow, slow fashion is what I do.
And it is a luxury.
I went to college in 1992 when Grunge was all in & 2nd hand shopping was the thing to do.
I hadn't really spent much time in second hand shops in the last years, but swopping, second hand & vintage are all back.
Slow Fashion is not just all second hand or swopping but also about high quality long lasting clothes that you love and keep.
Whether you read the Sunday Times magazines or other magazines, Slow fashion has been converted to a new trend - hopefully one to stay.
The side effects are also great - less wardrobe clutter, for those of us prone to clutter.
Clothes that feel great on and ideally pieces that you love. Fabulously Old Fashioned
  • Vintage, Second Hand, Markets - for all sorts of surprise treasures & haggle a little
  • Revamp or recycle your old clothes - a bit of clever sewing could transform your wardrobe, if like me you got a sympathy pass in first year home economics, then check out sewing or other craft courses - It's super!
  • Have a clothes swop party! While I haven't had one yet, having 2 sisters, I'm looking forward to giving it a go & with swop shops springing up - it's the new way to shop - apparently
  • If you are shopping for something new - add some organic and fair trade clothes to your wardrobe. It is luxurious to wear soft organic cottons, hemps, silks & cashmeres & rewarding to know the story behind your clothing.
  • You could also say you are greening up your wardrobe.
